Negligence and horrible service
On the 15th of January 2025, I saw Dr Jager because of the glowing recommendations on Google about how she listens, is friendly and actually treats you. Sad to say, I was very disappointed. The Dr and her nurse poked me six times trying to get a drip. SIX. and they had no decency to even apologize to me for it. Before they even started, I told the nurse that my veins are usually problematic especially on the arms and many HCW end up using my wrists or hands but even then the most times they've tried was three, not six and apologised profusely for it. She did not listen.
When they finally got a line in, they failed to secure it properly. The tape caught on itself not my skin and of course the whole thing fell apart and slid right out. My arm was straight not bent, exactly how they asked me to keep it. I did not move the arm or touch anything with the corresponding hand. I simply pulled my phone out of my bag using my free arm/hand because the bag was right next to me. While on the call, I notice the tape slowly lifting, I show the nurse and she gets even more frustrated, calls the Dr and they decide to shout at me for "moving" and causing the drip to come out. That time, I'm literally on the phone with my husband updating him on my situation because he was worried at work and that was the only moment we could talk. The nurse very rudely tells me to put my phone away like I'm her child or something when she could just wait a few seconds for me to finish. They already mutilated me so much.
Regardless, how could a well-secured drip rip out of my arm without me using that arm? I made very sure to keep still and answer my phone with my left hand. Like I said, this was not my first drip but it was the first time I had to be poked so much just to get it and then have it fail and the blame fall on me. How could I possibly move so much that a drip falls out of my arm??? They both have the nerve to give me attitude talking about they "can't help me if I'm not going to cooperate". I just sat there and let them poke me SIX times!! No way I'm moving and sabotaging that because that **** hurts. I'm used to getting drips so it doesn't hurt much anymore but when she tried my left wrist she kept moving the line inside me trying to find the vein when she could see she was next to it not in it. She was hurting me so much that I couldn't help but wince in pain and again, they blamed me for moving (this is the third try by the way and I barely flinched for the first two, nothing is ever their fault). You're literally hurting me, at least say sorry! (Even the cotton wool the nurse placed on my arm with tape after the drip was finished was not secure enough to make it through the ride home and I live 10mins from the hospital)
Secondly, I told the dr about my allergy concern and she dismissed it saying that I would've landed in the hospital if that were true (did not ask me how I dealt with the situation when it first arose, just jumped to the conclusion that I was lying or it surely can't be it because what do I know?). But I do know. This is MY body. I haven't had a "spontaneous" asthma attack in over a decade. I work from home and I'm exhausted most of the time so I don't do much strenuous activities (only yoga to keep active but I wasn't even doing that because of the hot flashes, nausea and dizzy spells). At the very least, she could've tried to understand where I was coming from. She did not.
Third, I told her that I have hot flashes, nausea and pain going down my legs. I'm busy fanning myself with my free hand so I don't pass out and she tells me to "calm down because it's not that hot". Are you serious? At that moment I snapped and reminded her that I have hot flashes to which she says, "hot flashes come and go" and I'm like "yes!!! they have been coming and going since I got here!!!! I'm not making it up, I'm actually sweating (showed her my sweat on my stomach). It's really not nice." do you know what she said to me?? "it's not nice for me to not get a drip right" like ***??? I am a PAYING customer IN IMMENSE PAIN, what bedside manner is this??? At this point, I'm stunned silent, bleeding out because they didn't bother to wipe the blood until they felt like it (I'm supposed to be "still" remember?)
They didn't explain the drip they were giving me either. I had to ask what was in it and shocker, nothing for pain (is it because "black people have high tolerance for pain"?) She also did not prescribe any pain medication or do anything to deal with my hot flashes, and nausea. I even had to ask again "what about this, and what about that" and she said I'll have to come back after the antibiotics are finished so she can see if the symptoms persist. This is after I told her I was diagnosed with endometriosis after a laparoscopic surgery. Nope, it doesn't matter until I come back and give more of my money right?
I told her I also had a lumpectomy and I suspect the lump may be back. She said nothing about this until I asked again, then she started poking my breast not doing an actual breast exam because yes, I actually do know what that looks like. When the drip was finished, I was shaking and coughing up mucus. I got up to try and leave but I couldn't move after getting up or breathe. I was in so much pain and they simply did not care. Saw me crying and asked if someone was coming to pick me up and then left. The nurse told me to "put the bed up and not lie down" and I was confused because I was standing and isn't she supposed to do that when she can clearly see that I'm in distress?
The Dr later came back with a single sheet of tissue paper which she handed to me like I was a bum in a train station who she was afraid would sneeze on her. I sat there for a while coughing, crying and spitting up mucus alone. They didn't care. eventually I managed to call my mom so she could request an uber for me. I gathered my strength and walked slowly out of there. I almost forgot to get my meds because I was so out of it and in pain.
When I try to keep it together, they underestimate what I'm going through. When I'm fanning myself and lifting my shirt because I can't stand the heat I'm feeling then suddenly I'm exaggerating. Which is it? is it because I'm black ? is it because I look very young and I wasn't accompanied by anyone? none of these reasons are good enough.
On Friday, the 17th, I went back to Dr Jager because the antibiotics she gave me make me vomit. She said "sometimes medication does that so when did you decide to discontinue it?" I was so confused because I hadn't decided anything that's why I was there. Also, am I supposed to just endure the vomiting because "that's what medication does"? I told her I realised it was the meds the day before and remembered that it's happened before with the same medication. She just kept quiet and wrote a script. I told her my period had gone on longer than usual which was worrying me because it was coupled with womb pain and hot flashes. All she gave me was tranic to stop the bleeding. My womb is still in pain and I'm confused about what to do now because I don't seem to be getting any help. I came with my mother on Friday so she could see the cold and unprofessional treatment I was receiving for herself which she did.
I'm so stressed out because this is not the first issue I'm having with an Arwyp Dr dismissing my symptoms. The first time was in the blockhouse in 2021. I went to see Dr De Villiers and was attended to by a lady Dr who said I'm too young to have hot flashes so it can't be that and my womb pain is surely just constipation (because I'm stupid and don't know what constipation feels like, right?) Not long after this, I landed in the hospital in KZN where they had to do emergency surgery because of ovarian torsion, and a large cyst with fluid. During the surgery, they found stage 3 endometriosis.
I returned to Gauteng in 2022 and went to Dr Kruger so I could get my prescription renewed. I told him about my diagnosis and the hormonal treatment they put me on. He dismissed it and said there's no way I have endometriosis because I had a baby almost 10 years ago. That same year, I ended up having two surgeries within two months of each other with Dr Kruger because of cysts and absesses on my ovaries. He told me he removed an ovary and fallopian tube and that I'd never have kids again. If your Drs had listened to me the first time, all this could have been avoided. After these surgeries I asked him again, is he sure I don't have endometriosis because how come I've needed so many surgeries? he said it's just infections.
I was fine for a while after the removal of the ovary and fallopian tube until 2024 when I had womb pain, hot flashes and nausea again. I went back to Dr Kruger who said there are cysts but they're not troublesome enough to operate. This time he said he did not remove my ovary and tube but I am still infertile??? now I'm confused about what's actually been done to me and why am I infertile if I do not have endometriosis? he ordered blood work to check hormones and they came back normal so he used that as a metric to say I don't have it but I have done my research and I know that's not how endometriosis is diagnosed. Endometriosis is not hormonal based and many women with normal hormone levels have been diagnosed with it. It seems like he just wants to wait until things are really bad again so he can cash in by cutting me open.
I'm lying in my bed in the fetal position right now because I'm in pain and I don't know where to go for actual help. Do I really have to fly back to KZN just to get a decent Dr? I'm so disappointed.
