Consistently Disappointing Experience at Arwyp
I am currently 29 weeks pregnant and have been consulting with Dr Kalonji, who is absolutely amazing. Unfortunately, every experience I’ve had with Arwyp Hospital itself has been frustrating and disappointing.
Today, I went to Lancet for a glucose test. I arrived at 07:50, had blood samples taken at 08:00, and was then left unattended for 1 hour 30 minutes. During this time, staff continued assisting other patients while completely ignoring me. By 09:40, I still had not been given any feedback about my results or the sugar solution I was supposed to drink, so I eventually left.
To make matters worse, while waiting, my phone died. I had a charging cable with me and simply needed a USB charging point to call an Uber. I asked at multiple desks throughout the hospital (security, front desk, etc.) and was sent from pillar to post with no assistance. By 11:18, I still had not received any help. In the end, I had to walk home, an hour-long walk, heavily pregnant, because nobody at Arwyp could help me with something as basic as a USB charging point or a phone call to call my husband to pick me up. I am in total disbelief and heartbroken by this.
This was not the first time I’ve been made to feel neglected. Even when I tried to arrange a simple maternity ward tour, I was sent from one person to the next with no clear direction. It feels as though patients’ needs are not prioritised here.
It is truly unfortunate, because I really value Dr Kalonji’s care. However, since he only operates at Arwyp, I am giving him up and returning to Netcare, where I delivered my first child and had a much better experience.
I do not recommend Arwyp Hospital to anyone, they’re honestly not worth anybody’s hard earned money. The staff has no passion or care for people. No more.
At some point, a lady security guard who was on duty yesterday in the main building around 10am told me all the front desk computers don’t work, they’re decorating. This in itself sounds absurd.
