Arwyp PUBLIC Hospital
My name is Ntando Nkomo and it is with the greatest grief and disgust that I write this review. My daughter and I were discharged from Arwyp Medical Centre on the 16th of July. Not because it was time to leave, but because I had enough with the staff of this hospital.
On the evening of Saturday, the 3rd of July, one Sr Beauty Chimutondo was taking care of my daughter. In the early hours of the morning, I was woken up by the alarm of the SATS Machine, indicating that my child's FiO2 was on 60%. The nurse did not come to tend to the baby or even at least ask if she was okay. When I checked on her, she was gasping for air as she had wrapped the vent cord around herself and this had pulled at the trachea.
I woke up and did not find her anywhere in the ward. I saw Sr Roslinah and asked her what my role as a sleep in mom was. I asked if being there meant I replace nurses as nothing is done when I'm present.
On the evening of Monday, the 12th of July, we came into the ward and Sr Dwaza and Sr Beauty were on duty. Sr Dwaza helped BEauty insert a drip on the head and immediately after, there was a gallon of blood back flowing from this pulsating drip. I raised my concern of the pulsating and back flowing drip, which was quickly dismissed. Dr Ruhaya (the Paediatrician) came in to see the baby the next day and also raised concerns of the drip and nothing was done about it.
On the morning hours of Thursday morning, at 1am, I was again woken up by the sound of the alarm. Again, my daughter was desaturating and this time, Sr Beauty was sleeping in bed 4 (the room next door to my daughter's). Annoyed, I checked on my daughter and went back to sleep. A 4am, the alarm went off again and Beauty was still sleeping. I went out of my baby's room to find out if the outside alarm does ring in response to the one inside. I asked Sr Phumla if she could hear the alarm and she said she could but at the time, she was busy with the boy in bed 1. (There were only two patients that night; my daughter and the boy in room1)
When Mpumi came on duty, I asked her to call the matron for me as I wanted to speak to her. At first, she didn't pick, but called back to say she is coming (I am still waiting for her)
On Firday morning, the 16th of July, I raised concern to Sr Athalia when half my daugter's face and the top of her head when swollen. When we removed the bandage and drip, we learnt that it had gone into a tissue. The bandage came off with skin and my baby is left with a huge scar. I immediately called the doctor and asked that he discharge us. We left Saturday morning, the 17th.
I am pregnant and sleep on a chair when my daughter is at Arwyp as I have no faith in the nursing staff, and now I can't even have faith in the so called Matron whom they report to.
It speaks volumes when a pregnant woman who's just had a Shirodkar Cerclage would rather sleep uncomfortably than go home to find Arwyp staff has killed her first born child.
I have not recieved response on any review given and I've learnt from past experiences with Arwyp (2019) that this hospital does not appreciate decent conversations and resolutions, so I will be taking this further.
Rather go to a public hospital to get public hospital treatment, than a private hospital with devilish intentions. *********** Matron, if you're still coming, I'm still waiting.
