Poor workmanship

Serious Warning: Aqua Marine Projects – Mr. J. Cantin

My experience with Mr. J. Cantin and Aqua Marine Projects was extremely disappointing and raises serious concerns about workmanship, professionalism, and integrity.

On 5 January, Mr. Cantin visited my home and provided a quote. I accepted the quote and was immediately asked to pay a 70% deposit, which I did without delay. It was agreed the project would take approximately two weeks. This timeframe was not met.

Work only began on 18 January, and from that point forward, the project was plagued by delays, shifting excuses, and repeated follow-ups on my side. During the build, Mr. Cantin requested additional payments, including an urgent request for R15,000, despite the deposit already being paid as agreed.

The pool net, which was supposedly included in the initial agreement, became another source of delay. I was repeatedly given excuses about supplier issues and poor communication. Despite ongoing promises, the net was not delivered on time, and the situation dragged on for weeks. Eventually, I had to escalate the matter, after which only the net deposit of R7,500 was refunded.

After completion, serious defects became apparent. Once the pool was filled, it was clear that the fibreglass work was not properly executed, with visible lifting from the pool wall. I arranged for inspections by two independent pool companies and an assessor.

The findings were alarming. There is clear evidence of seepage around the pool surface, indicating that the sealant was either not app**** correctly or not app**** at all. This is a fundamental failure in pool construction.

Despite this, Mr. Cantin denied responsibility and made false claims that work had not been done on the affected area, which is contradicted by the installation of tiles and lighting.

This experience involved delays, inconsistent communication, unmet commitments, and serious workmanship issues that required external assessment to identify. The final result is a defective pool that does not meet acceptable standards.

I strongly advise against using Aqua Marine Projects or Mr. J. Cantin for any pool installation work. Based on my experience, their workmanship is unacceptable and their service unreliable.
