Overall terrible service from AON/Santam
As an Investec banking client, I was introduced to AON/Santam for the building insurance for our home. For the first few claims, the claims which were mostly related to damages due to loadshedding were processed reasonably ok. Following the processing of those claims however, we were not prepared for what was coming our way. Our monthly premiums were almost doubled and the excess was taken up by R3500 from R500 - treatment I have never experienced from any insurer. What was worse was also the treatment we started to receive where we would raise queries regarding the ridiculous increases and would call out home assist (electrician and/or plumber) and be ignored for up to 3 weeks or more (only reason they sent someone was after I escalated to Investec). Apart from the high monthly premiums, high excesses and horrible service, the service providers they would send would come on site and not fully attend to the problems, causing us to keep following up with AON for their return to correctly repair whatever it is we called them for. On the other hand, the broker themself (AON) would also never get back to us on the queries regarding the high premiums, excesses and lack of service siting Santam as the reason for the lack of response. In a nutshell, we became a premium payer receiving zero service and downgraded to junk status by AON/Santam. Over time, the relationship has become nothing but difficult, leaving me with no option but to terminate the contract. I am so disgusted by Santam and realise that you are only good to them when paying your premiums but not making claims. Once you start claiming, they increase your premiums by almost 100% and excesses by 300%. One can ask themselves what the point of the insurance is if you are going to pay insurance only to not claim?! Shame on you Santam and good riddens. Why Investec refers their clients to this terrible insurance provider is beyond me. If it weren’t for the recent intervention by Phindi Lutshaba (AON), I would have lost it dealing with Santam and it’s service providers.
