Expensive, poor communication, poor claims process

I have been with AON (Pinion Private Insurance) since I bought my first house with the financial institution I bank with (1998). The service used to be brilliant. In the last 3 to 4 years it has deteriorated to less than satisfactory. Several attempted claims for lightning damage to routers etc fell on deaf ears, too much of a pain to get reports for blown routers.

We bought a new house in July 2016 and this is when the fun started. 1. AON do not insure thatch houses, this is outsourced to a company called TSA. 2. AON remain the broker but there are two debit orders, normal insurance (contents, cars etc) and one for the TSA thatch insurance. 3. Claim one for rain damage, took ages for the claim to register, took longer for the assessor to check the damage, I then had to get quotes for the repair, there was NO contact of feedback from the broker at AON. I eventually gave up and cancelled the claim and paid for the repairs myself. 4. New claim for pool pump damaged by power surge from power cuts, no communication and constant following up from me after I had paid for the replacement, eventual settlement approximately 5 weeks after lodging the claim. 5. New claim for subsistence damage to pool, I have paid R27k for the repairs, so far the claim has been outstanding for 7 weeks, I send emails requesting feedback weekly. 6. Request for feedback and escalation fall on deaf ears, several emails today left me with no option but to move the insurance to another organisation. Overall a bad experience with a big organisation.
