Car hire option not available when claiming third party

A random driver crashed into my car while it was parked in a parking lot and he was very helpful though, providing me with his insurance details.

After contacting my insurance company Aon, (recommended to me by Investec Bank) they informed me that it would be better to claim directly from the third party cause it will save them the hassle of claiming back from the other drivers insurance company. I did this and the third party paid out after three months, at which point the auto repair shop informed me they would need my car for three days. I contacted Aon again to check if I can make use of my standard car hire option and was told that because I claimed from the third party and not from them they will not be providing me with a car hire.

I find this unfair since I not only saved Aon the claim amount but also the legal hassle and expense of recovering the money from the third party and in return they are unwilling to honour my car hire option for a mere three days.

If you make use of Aon insurance then my advice is to never claim from the third party and to always claim from them directly despite them advising you to rather claim from the third party if that is the situation you are in.

Reviewer Update

Today I was contacted by the insurer and they have offered me a rental car for the duration of my repairs. I'm happy that we were able to resolve this successfully :)
