Traumatic experience for my 3 year old
Good day. I would like to make a serious compliant. I took my 3 year old daughter for blood tests at the Ampath in the Midstream Medical Center on 24 April after 5pm.
When we entered the rooms, I could see that the nurse on duty got very discouraged and gave a deflated sigh when she saw that I brought my 3 year old to draw blood. I told her that her reaction does not make me feel very confident in the service that we are about to receive, and she mentioned that she is alone on duty and would need to ask someone at the lancet rooms to assist in holding my daughter down.
When she started drawing my daughter’s blood, only a little blood came out and she was moving the needle back and forth to get the blood out. This I believe is very dangerous. She looked very unsure and not confident in what she was doing and looked as if she froze not knowing what to do now that not enough blood was coming out. I told her to please stop. The nurse said that we might not have enough blood for the tests but that Ampath will call if we need to come back.
The next day my daughter’s arm looked terrible. I would like to send a pic to Ampath whenever they respond. I have never seen something like this due to the drawing of blood. I sent Ampath a facebook message 2 days ago but have not heard back, I also included a pic of my daughter’s arm.
My complaint is that I feel that the nurse that day did not demonstrate adequate experience, knowledge and confidence when it came to drawing children’s blood which caused my daughter to have a very traumatic experience. My other complaint is that the nurse made me question her abilities from the beginning with her deflated sigh once she saw that I brought my 3 year old for tests.
