Extremely Disappointed – Ongoing Breach of Confidentiality

I’m deeply concerned about the repeated and careless handling of patient information by this lab. On multiple occasions I received my mother’s confidential blood test results and account balances, without her consent. Shockingly, the same sensitive information was also sent to her former colleague, which is a gross violation of her privacy.

While the documents were password-protected, the password used was my personal ID number — which is not only inappropriate but a serious breach of my own privacy as well. At no point did my mother consent to sharing her medical or financial information with anyone, including me.

This is not a minor error. It is a repeated breach of POPIA and basic ethical standards. My trust in this lab is completely broken, and unless serious steps are taken to correct this and prevent future violations, I will be reporting this to the HPCSA and Information Regulator.

Patients deserve better. Our private information should be treated with the highest level of care and confidentiality — not handled so carelessly.
