Denied a COVID-19 test

Post a week in Nigeria and a week in Tanzania, I presented myself to the Ampath Laboratories at Bedford Gardens hospital to be voluntarily tested for the COVID-19. On arrival I was redirect via a printed message to another Ampath site. It was here that I was denied a COVID-19 without a Doctor’s referral letter. Please can you help me understand why I cannot have myself tested (at my own expense) at a time when we have a worldwide pandemic unfolding. Does my (and others’) risk not increase if I go first to my local physician for him write this on a piece of paper? Not to mention time delays and unnecessary cost of a consultation for a test – or is this the Ampath strategy? At this time of crisis should you not be offering voluntary testing or making an effort for more people to participate in COVID-19? I really think Ampath Laboratories could be doing better at this important time!
