Ampath exorbitant charges

Warning to all

With this review I want to warn people in need of blood tests, please do your homework thoroughly.

After visiting Ampath in the Helderberg district, Western Cape I am left with an enormous account of R6 300.00. When I compare Ampath's cost for a test R752.00 with another laboratory's, Ampath's is 242% more expensive - the other one only charges R220.00 for the same test. After enquiring with Ampath about their exorbitant charges I was told the other Laboratory is for the lower income group - think that's kind of an appalling comment to make and it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth as I am a pensioner in the lower income group. Also according to Ampath my fault for not asking for a quote before tests were done. Maybe it would have been nice, if Ampath offered me a quote before the tests were done. You also could have asked me if my medical aid will cover the costs, but no that's not a crucial question to ask.
