Ampath Debtors Department unprofessional and breaches the POPI act

This review is regarding the Ampath Debtors Department. On 31 August I wrote an email to Ampath where I indicated my unhappiness with their communication. You first receive a sms indicating a statement will be emailed to you for a specific account number.(I checked and my email details were correct). Then you receive a sms about 10 days later indicating the amount outstanding for that account and that payment is due 30 days from the service date. Then you only receive the statement via email(where you can verify the account details) about 2 days later. When you phone to verify that everything is up to date the info you receive differs sometimes from the statements that one received. This has happened to me with regard to 4 different accounts from Ampath. When I emailed Ampath on the 31st of August to query 2 outstanding accounts I received 2 statements on the 1st of September. The one statement was correct. However Ampath mentioned 2 other accounts were one was rejected that I was not even aware of. And the other statement they sent me was not even mine. Ampath made the following information available to me of another person: ID number, Medical Scheme Plan, Medical Scheme Membership number, Birthdate, Gender and Address.

I responded first by phoning and then emailing them on the 6th of September where I indicated their mistake and that it was a breach of the POPI act. I questioned the security of my information. Their response was simply the following on the 7th of September:" "Good Day, Thank you for your correspondence received. Please find attached the copy of your statements as requested. Should you have any further queries in this regard, please do not hesitate to contact us."

The statements they send me was AGAIN that of another person. I now even had more information of that person which included: The Referring Doctor, Referring DR Practice Number, The Patient name and Dates and details of payments made.

Once again the communication from Ampath was unacceptable and of an uninterested manner and the quality of service from the Debtors Department is unprofessional.

How secure is our personal information at Ampath Debtors Department???
