Misleading Product Description — And I Had to Pay R145 to Fix Their Mistake

I ordered a PC monitor from *** based on the product specifications displayed on their website, which explicitly indicated that the monitor had a DisplayPort connection.

This was not some trivial detail. DisplayPort was an important requirement for me because I wanted to take full advantage of the monitor's high refresh rate without the additional compatibility headaches that can come with HDMI cables and higher refresh rates.

Imagine my frustration when the monitor arrived and, lo and behold, **there was NO DisplayPort connection!**

The product I received did not match the specifications advertised on Amazon's own product page. I purchased the monitor based on information that turned out to be incorrect, making the product unsuitable for my needs.

Naturally, I returned it. But here's where this experience went from disappointing to downright ridiculous: **I had to pay R145 in courier fees to return an item that was incorrectly described in the first place!**

Let that sink in. I relied on Amazon's product description, received something different from what was advertised, and then had to pay out of my own pocket to correct the situation.

Why should a customer be financially penalised for an inaccurate product listing? Surely verifying that a product's specifications are correct is a basic responsibility of an online retailer of Amazon's size.

Amazon has built its reputation on convenience, reliability and customer service. Yet in this instance, the experience was anything but convenient. I wasted time ordering, receiving and repacking the monitor, arranging a return, and paying R145 in courier fees — all because the advertised specifications did not match the actual product.

**My message to *** is simple: GET YOUR PRODUCT DESCRIPTIONS RIGHT!** Customers should not have to play a guessing game when ordering electronics, and they certainly should not have to pay return shipping fees because the information on your website is wrong.

I expect *** to take responsibility for inaccurate product listings and reimburse the R145 return courier fee. It is the principle of the matter as much as the money.

A very disappointing experience. I will certainly think twice before ordering from Amazon again.
