Amazon.co.za: Misrepresentation, Lies & Consumer Rights Ignored
I purchased a brand-new MacBook Pro from Amazon.co.za (sold/shipped by Amazon as an authorised Apple reseller). What arrived was clearly used: broken seals, scratches, and signs of prior handling. This is blatant false advertising and a breach of consumer law.
Under the Consumer Protection Act, I have the right to demand a replacement if the item shipped was incorrect / damaged. Amazon refused, offered only a refund, and wasted my time for four days with delays and unhelpful bot (or human - no one answered when I asked) “support.” I returned the unit, but Amazon still provides no commitment or timeline for resolution. So right now I've paid for a new MacBook yet have no machine and no money.
Apple seems unconcerned that its “authorised reseller” is damaging their brand by misrepresenting Apple products. I have spoken to a team-leader at Apple support. As a first-time Apple customer (switching from Microsoft/Android - thinking this will be the beginning of a beautiful tech friendship - that's what all the shiny influencers keep peddling), this experience has been a disaster and left me questioning Apple as much as Amazon.
Consumers deserve honesty, accountability, and respect, not lies, runarounds, and corporate indifference. Amazon is the biggest rip-off and *****.
