Alva gas brand is useless

I bought a 2 plate Alva gas stove and just over a year its not working properly, I took it to their technical guys (Stingray Group, Woodmead) and I was told the cost for repairing the stove will be way more than that of buying a new one. How possible is that, I didnt know that these types of stoves are "disposssible" - after the 12 month warranty you just have to throw the stove away. Surely this cant be right....
