IUM and Centriq do not pay claims even after viewing CCTV footage and proof of theft
On July 6th, I went for a family dinner for my birthday. It was at a restaurant in woodmead called Giovannis. I parked my car and went inside for dinner. I came out at 22:30 and opened my boot after seeing that my car was unlocked. I found that my month old laptop had been ******. This was devastating as I use that laptop for work, I basically can't do my work as a graphic designer without it.
I opened a case with the police and they said it was most likely car jamming. I reported it to my insurance and they said that it was not covered because it was "negligence" on my side. Negligence, after I had my laptop in my boot, concealed, and locked. Furthermore, I have a Ford Fiesta, a car with a remote locker. Even if I wanted to check that my car boot was locked I am unable to. the nature of the design is that if I am holding my keys in my hand and I am next to the car, the boot will always open.
I sent all the CCTV footage of what happened, where it is clearly seen that my car has been signal jammed, and my laptop taken out of my boot. The insurance is saying that there is no forced entry and that it was negligence. They however, forced my car to stay unlocked, took the laptop out my boot without my permission. This is theft, pure and simple. If I were to have left my laptop at the restaurant and gone home, they would have covered me. If I had left my laptop on a bus they would have covered me. But when it's locked away in a concealed area of my car there is no cover. I find this absolutely disgusting and unacceptable. how can you claim to cover comprehensive insurance on a laptop that I pay a premium of R380 a month for and not cover theft even after seeing footage of the theft?! For R380 a month I could have bought a second laptop from FNB and used that as a backup. Your insurance is a joke, your company is a joke. After I hit send I'm also going to leave your pathetic "Insurance" company.
