GREEDY INSURERS!!!

IUM is probably the worst insurance company we've ever had the pleasure, or should I say displeasure of dealing with. We put in a claim for rain damage to our ceiling last year November 2020, after an unprecedented rain storm with damaging, driving winds. IUM decided we had no claim and even tried to insinuate that my husband was dishonest and thereby questioning his integrity. SURPRISE, last night 25 November 2021, we again experienced and unprecedented rain storm with heavy rain and driving winds. Unfortunately for us once, again we had our ceiling leak, so surprise IUM you were wrong the first time and it was a freak rain storm with terrible winds that caused the damage once again. We did inspect the roof after IUM would not cover us the first time and could not find any visible problems, but we are not roofing experts. We have not had any leaks during the rainy season up until yesterday's out of the ordinary rain storm. So a warning to others, IUM are just a GREEDY INSURANCE COMPANY WHO WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY, BUT NOT PAY OUT A CLAIM IF MISFORTUNE COMES YOUR WAY!!!!!!

Good afternoon Lynne,
Regarding our previous response dated 29 November 2021 to which we haven’t received your further feedback.
As mentioned in our claim rejection letter dated 15 December 2020, the claim you are referring to was rejected by IUM on the expert guidance of our independent loss adjuster who confirmed that the chimney area where the water entered your premises was not waterproof due to wear and tear/gradual deterioration and an overall lack of maintenance.
Unfortunately, given these circumstances and our expert’s findings the policy did not respond.

Kind Regards.

Thank you for your reply, but with all due respect, nobody was sent to get up onto the roof to inspect the chimney. My husband was guessing as to where the water may have leaked in and this was used against him. There was never anyone sent to get onto the roof to inspect what was going on, also be aware that we had already had rain before this event and the roof never leaked then. This particular rain storm was unprecedented and had driving rain, which at my best guess, had an effect on the roof not being able to handle the driving wind and enormous amounts of rain. My husband subsequently after that event, got onto the roof and took care of the area around the chimney, which you assume was the problem, even though nobody was ever sent to actually get onto the roof to inspect the area. Your so called "independent" loss adjuster was never at our premises to assess the damage. I also have my doubts about how "INDEPENDENT" he is. Respectfully my opinion is, that he will obviously protect IUM's interests first, but that is respectfully just my opinion, which we are all entitled to. This loss adjuster, took what my husband said and used it against him, even though my husband is by no means a roofing expert. He never ever came to our premises in person to inspect the damage himself. It is very ironic that almost a year later the roof leaked again and the circumstances were again with driving wind and enormous amounts of rain. The area of which you speak was also waterproofed less than a year ago, so this was obviously not the problem. We have subsequently since then had rain, as you know, as recently as this weekend, and guess what, the roof did not leak. The problem seems to be when we have unprecedented rain storms with excessive rain and wind the roof then leaks and as I said before my husband is not a roofing expert. I will sadly never ever be able to refer anyone to your organisation and I will definitely never ever be using you company in the future. It is sad when an insurance company takes your money every month to carry the risk, but will not pay out when there is a problem. So again respectfully my opinion is that IUM is willing to take your money every month, but not carry the risk.
Regards,

Dear Ms. Lotter,  Regarding your previous response.  We appreciate your sentiments in this instance; however we respectfully still disagree with such findings. According to the information at our disposal, which information we trust to be fair and accurate, the policy will unfortunately not respond given the merits of this claim. We have further not received any formal objections to our election in this regard.  Regrettably, we’re unable to take this matter any further and as such we will now proceed to close this file on our side.  We hope you have a wonderful week and festive season.  Regards

To those concerned,

Regrettably I was expecting this kind of response from IUM.

It is by no means a surprise then, to see that IUM's Trust Index Rating on the Hellopeter platform is 2.8 out of 10.

I unfortunately have to say that my communication with IUM has been a very unpleasant experience. I expect this file was closed some time ago by IUM, and I herewith also respectfully close the book on IUM forever.

I pray IUM find the compassion and decency they so obviously lack.

Respectfully,
