Unauthorised block of account not under Debt Managemnet
Good day, I hope you can assist me with a dilemma I am facing regarding the unauthorised block of my husband's account. The following is the sequence of events:On 21 January 2021 I was approached by Rochelle from Alpha Debt Management, who after much persuasion and persistence managed to get me to consent to going under debt management with their company.Amongst the questions I asked, is how much this process will cost me and for how long I would be under debt management.Rochelle advised there is no lump sum payable to them for the process, as the their fee would be covered in the monthly instalment that they would be deducting. She further advised that they would do the necessary calculations based on the debts I have and revert with specifics on how long I would be under debt management. At no stage during the process, was I advised that the 1st two instalments i would be paying will not go to my creditors, but to Alpha Debt management and only from the 3rd payment, would they start paying my creditors.I was therefore very surprised when my creditors continued deducting the usual debit order amounts from my account and I immediately informed Nuraan at Alpha Debt of this. I also called and at the time of initially complaining about this, the agent I dealt with still did not expain to me that the first 2 instalmens I pay, would be for Alpha Debt and none to my creditors. The straw that broke the camel's back was when my husband discovered that his ABSA account was blocked, yet he was not part of the debt management process. None of his accounts are part of the debt management process. The Friday of 5 March I called Alpha Debt advising that I want the block on my husband's account to be lifted as he was not part of the debt management process. The agent promised that someone would call me the Monday. They would exclude my ABSA account from the debt management process, and that would result in the lifting of the block.Needless to say, no one called me back. I also advised that, due to the inconsistency or failure to be fully transparent or upfront with me regarding when my creditors would be paid and the duration of the process, they should rather cancel the debt management process. In fact, without the ABSA account, I would be going under debt management for a debt of around R15 000.00, which is an amount that I can manage to pay on my own. My husband suffered a heart condition which required a cash payment in order to access medical assistance. Due to the block on his account, he was not able to to access funds for the medical assistance he needed. After several follow ups with Alpha debt management, they advised me that the block on my husband's account would only be lifted once all the accounts are paid in full. This is totally *********, as none of my husband's accounts are under debt management and I specifically requested that the debt management process be cancelled on 5 and 8 March and that they must refund me the 1st instalment they deducted so far, so that I can proceed with paying my creditors. Please assist me with getting Alpha Debt to urgently lift the block on my husband's account, refund me what they have deducted so far and cancel the process.
