COMPLAINT

My name is Bonginkosi Jabulani Mkhize, ID number ***. In April 2019, I entered into an agreement with a debt collection company called Alpha Debt Management to consolidate my debts. According to the agreement, I was to pay R6,688.59 per month for a period of five years. These payments were debited monthly until March 2024.

I was under the impression that, upon completion of the payment term, I would receive a clearance certificate confirming that all my debts had been settled. This arrangement was made following an instruction from the Greytown Magistrate’s Court, which indicated that the only way to settle my outstanding debts was through this consolidated payment plan.

The creditors that were supposed to be paid through this arrangement included Standard Bank, African Bank, and RCS. However, I now suspect that Alpha Debt Management may not have been paying the full amount to my creditors. Despite completing the five-year payment term, I am still being contacted by lawyers demanding payment for debts that were supposedly included in the consolidation.

I reported the matter to the National Credit Regulator (NCR), and they confirmed that I had fully paid Alpha Debt Management. This indicates that the funds may not have been correctly distributed to the creditors.

As a result, I am now forced to pay R200 per month to lawyers handling these unresolved debts. I have informed them that the matter is under investigation by the NCR. I am requesting that Hello Peter intervene and help investigate this matter so that I can be cleared of these debts and recover the R200 I have been paying unnecessarily.
