POPI Act breach

Yesterday I received a call from ADT to inform me of a promotion they are running: "Free alarm system if you don't currently have one". I enquired as to where they got hold of my details, and the caller was puzzled, but had an honest effort to answer my query. It was something in the lines of "a data partner or an online database". I informed him that I wasn't interested in the offer or any further correspondence from ADT and that I am registered on the DMASA's DO NOT CALL DATABASE. Then we ended the call.

A little while later, I received another call. From ADT as well. Same thing. So my response was the same: enquire as to where they got my details. The caller could not answer, as she did not have any information. She was friendly, so I listened to her proposal, during which I realised it was a "free QUOTE", NOT a free system... After a further short conversation we ended the call, after I indicated I do not want to receive any communication from ADT Security at all.

Today I get an SMS:

"Paying too much for armed response? Need an alarm? Get a FREE ADT Rental alarm system at unbeatable rates. Reply A for a quote B for More info C to opt out"

The contact number for ADT Customer Care listed here on HelloPeter just rings. No Answer. I called ADT's direct contact number, and after a long period on hold being put through to someone, I was cut off. I tried a couple of times, spending time and money on the calls, and eventually had someone answer and say the regional sales manager has to contact me.

So I have 3 complaints about ADT: 1. They got my info from someone who clearly breached the POPIA, 2. False and unclear advertising (free system call, no it's a free quote call, free system SMS), and 3. continuing direct marketing after instruction to stop.

ADT, I noticed there was another complaint on HelloPeter regarding the same issue on 27 July 2016. Your response was that someone would contact the complainant that day to resolve the issue. Should you contact me, please be aware I will not answer a masked/hidden "private" number. I will cooperate with the caller, but I insist on the following information, and in writing:

1. WHO gave/sold/shared with you my details (name, number, etc.)

2. WHAT details of mine you currently have

3. WHY ADT contacted me twice after I instructed not to be contacted ("opt-out", if you will)

4. WHY ADT isn't registered with the Direct Marketing Association of South Africa
