Don't make me regret not signing with District Watch...

Until proven incorrect this will be my review of ADT.

Until recently I have always made use of ADT's services with little hassles over the years. For the last 3 weeks since moving and foolishly taking out another contract, it has been the one thing after the other. I am beginning to regret not signing up with District Watch, as ADT has an awfully bad reputation in the area where I live. I thought to stay with who I know - or thought I knew.

First: My alarm keeps going off, and loadshedding seems to get the blame for that. The first technician helped with that - my alarm stopped activating after his visit on 7 October. Thank you for that Llewellyn. He gave me quite a bit of information regarding how to expand my alarm system. The 2nd technician replaced magnets due to me changing the doors and windows. I had to pay a call out fee for this.

Second: Without the aid of loadshedding, while the alarm still activates sporadically, especially when I am at work. I don't even get called to inform me that the alarm has been activated. Neighbours/ Neighbourhood watch phone me to inform me of this, and I have had to phone ADT to please investigate/ patrol. I am argued with regarding the times they tried to contact me to inform me that the alarm has activated. The neighbourhood watch WhatsApp group informs me that ADT did inspection more than 2 hours after the initial call. They never call back when the alarm is activated to let me know that everything is okay at home. I have to inspect after work when I return. From what I read in the reviews; it seems that I must prepare myself for an excess fee due to "excessive call outs" at the end of the month.

3rd: When I insisted that a technician is dispatched to investigate, I am quickly reminded that there are fees attached to a call out. It took stubbornness and borderline rudeness (which I am not proud of) and insistence to at least speak to a supervisor who could expedite a technical visit without the fee being attached.

I would like ADT to prove me wrong, that it was indeed a good decision that I chose them as my armed response company. Just call me and let me know when my alarm is activated, I am reasonable, my expectations are low, hence why I am so upset that those low expectations aren't even met. Improve your response times, try more than once when you do call. I do not expect ADT to sit on my doorstep and watch my house 24 hours a day as if I am their only client. It isn't possible and it doesn't make any business sense whatsoever. Our area is not that large, 20-to-30-minute response-time is a bit excessive for an approximate 5 km radius (could be much less than that) that include the 5 immediate surrounding suburbs I assume will be included in the patrol area. Patrol cars that should be patrolling in the area, this kind of response time should improve drastically. It takes me much less than that to travel 9 km to and from work which exceeds the 5 suburbs I refer to above.

All I want is reasonable service, is that so difficult to provide?

Dear Fidelity-Adt

I spent a good 2 to 2hours 30 minutes dealing with ADT this morning, only to be none the wiser. The supervisor, Akhona whom I spoke to this morning, and who assured me that he will find out why I don't seem to receive any of the automated messages to inform me that my alarm has activated, nor do I receive the subsequent phone calls I am supposed to receive?

I am so glad that ALL of this happened while the technician was at my house, to see that there is nothing wrong with the signals going through to the response centre. Twice while he tested the system, did the armed response unit come to my house as a response. He phoned the centre himself, and they could all verify that they have received signals at 8h43, 8h50 and then 9h33. Unfortunately, they cut their colleague's call. I then called back to speak to Mr Akhona, who assured me that they have all the correct details for me on record. Again, did we test the alarm by pressing the panic button this time. According to them, I don't pick up the calls. Ironically, my number is correct on their records and Mr Akhona phoned to my number later and surprise-surprise, I answered. What do you know, I do know how to use a phone.

Due to this, the armed response unit was dispatched, yet again. The same responder that the technician explained the situation to earlier - Mr Vuyani.

This time the patient Mr Vuyani (I do hope I have this correct) contacted the response centre to ask them as well to please call the client, me, before they just dispatch him. Especially since we were testing. To my surprise, and fortunately for her, I did not get her name as I will "name and shame". Her response to the responder was: This client refuses to talk to us, he must call Akhona. I could hear the radio, as I was standing next to the responder. I asked to speak to the lady, and asked Mr Vuyani to push the little button, and I addressed her directly telling her that she should be careful what she says, and that it seems that there is a response centre issue that could lead to my calls not being answered or me not being responded to. I also alluded to her unprofessional behaviour, and just told her to be careful before she speaks.

Mr Ahkona and I spoke once again, I armed my alarm and went to work - lo and behold, it activates when I am about halfway to work. I was promised a technician will come once again to see to the problem at a time convenient to me, and that Mr Akhona will have an answer for me by the end of business - which I am assuming is 17h00. At 16h50, I called the response centre, and my call was cut after ringing for about 24 seconds. I made Mr Akhona aware that I am aware of ADT's "excessive call-out" fee that they add at the end of the month to clients' bills. I do not ever want to see any such additions to my bill, as this is the very reason people sign up for services that are promised by ADT. Apparently, this matter was escalated. I also refuse to pay any more call out fees related to this, because this is the first thing one is told when you ask for a technician to come and assess the system.

To me, an outsider and by process of elimination, there is a problem in the response centre and with the "automated reply" system - but ADT does not want to admit this. I bought 2 new batteries, at a cost of nearly R1000, the signals are received, the armed response units are dispatched. The problem then lies with the automated system, which should, if it fails revert to a call centre agent physically calling, nor do the response centre agents don't want to speak to me - as the young lady so eloquently told the response person via the radio.

So, Mr/ Ms Fidelity-Adt, there, I solved your problem. What more do you want from me? I'm down a R1000, so your chances of getting more money is slim to none. Let's just cancel this contract (with no penalty to me) and then we forget we ever met, so I can contact District Watch or Zonewatch to do what you can't seem to do. I am looking forward to your response to this.

Dear Fidelity ADT

More than 1 year after severing all ties with you, I get this message on my phone. How is this even possible.

Is this even legal - my profile is cancelled. This is classic, coming from someone who *******ly according to a contract deducted money from my account.

Now I must phone lawyers...

Wish I could give you less than a 1-star review.

Upon phoning LGR Attorneys, and querying this, they cut me off and don't answer when I call back.

Who is in the wrong here?

What makes this so much more suspect is that when I phoned LGR Attorneys, they simply say the only way for me is to pay this money otherwise they will just refer to their client who happens to be ADT. When I phone ADT, they tell me that LGR attorneys are the only people that will be able to help me.

So, I am going to be blacklisted because ADT is still wanting money from me for something that I don't even have anymore.

The following amounts were paid by me to ADT via EFT on 13 October 2022 (R1185.22), 20 October 2022 R966).

On 26 October 2022, a stop order for R60.94 (I think for the use of the antenna), on 29 October 2022, a stop order for R1185.22 (I still don't know what for - probably for activation) the original system was a District Watch system, and a stop order for R320 (subscription fees) on 2 November was deducted from my account. This R320 was according to my contract only due to be deducted from February 2023.

Had conversations with a "Paul" who at the time was area manager in this area on the 2nd of November and the 12th of December 2022.

Received SMS notification that the R1185.22 and R320 have been paid back to me on 2 November 2022, plus that I my service will be terminated on 2 November 2022. Paul confirmed this earlier on that day.

One year later, I am being handed over to LGR Attorneys - which "TrueCaller" is picking up as spam and an ******* business, to say they are collecting. *** is the number I was provided with to call.

I need answers urgently.

Someone is making a mistake here, and it seems like a big mistake. I am not sure who.
