ADT will sell your phone number to marketing agent
This is a follow up on the story I posted last year in which I outlined how I proved that ADT Security had sold my cell phone number to data marketing agencie(s) who had sold it on to telemarketing agents who were phoning me all the time. I received a call from the manager of the ADT branch in Port Shepstone who complained bitterly about the pressure he was under from head office who'd accused him and his staff of selling my cell phone details - he denied ever having done that and it seems that head office were just passing the buck down the line so as to deflect the blame from themselves. pretty ***ardly thing to do in my opinion but typical of the ethos of these big corporate companies who's daily fair is lying, cheating, *****ing, manipulating and destroying. They wont come clean on this so my advice would be to avoid dealing with them so that through your consumer activism perhaps some pressure could be brought to bear on them to clean up their act.

This is a follow up on the review I posted in May 2015 questioning how my cell phone details ended up with marketing agents and me recieving countless calls and sms's. This is the email I sent to Wendy Knowler of ECR Consumer Watch -
"Hi Wendy,
For the last few years I've been inundated by calls and sms's from marketing agents trying to sell their products. I'm sure you've had similar experiences along with most other people in this country so I'm not alone. What you don't perhaps know is how some of these agents get your name and number.
Well, I have proof that my security company (name deleted) sold my details to agents. Here's how I have proof:-
I took over control of a beach cottage owned by my mother on the KZN south coast from my brother in law who had been in charge of looking after it until I came to live there a few years ago.
The security company monitoring the premises was (name deleted) so I contacted the local (name deleted) branch and asked them to change the cell phone number they had on their data base which they use in case they need to contact anyone in the event of an alarm activation at the premises. However, I did not change the name of my brother in law that they had on the data base so in essence they had my cell phone number and my brother in law's name on their data base. As I have never had much to do with my brother in law in the past at all and don't have any relationship with him to speak of there is absolutely no way possible that my cell number and my brother in law's name can be associated together other than on the (name deleted) data base.
Since having done that, for the last few years I've been getting calls and sms's addressing me by my brother in law's name????This is therefore proof positive that (name deleted) sold the details. ***** or what????
I wrote a report on Hellopeter.com to this effect and the response I received from (name deleted) was an email from a legal representative of theirs who threatened to sue me should I make any further allegations in this vein. (See attached letter)
Anyway, I thought you'd have an interest in this and perhaps you have some suggestions as to what my next steps could be to try to help stop this sort of frustrating and ******* practice.

Needless to say she said she was overloaded with cases to follow up on but said she'd look into it and get back to me if she made some headway but sadly nothing ever came of it.
Just so all you good people know, I'm still getting calls and sms's daily and I find this totally objectionable as I have a right to my privacy and my confidential private information should remain as such as I'm sure you'll all agree......
