Inferior ACDC Dynamics High Voltage Tape
I purchased a roll of ACDC High Voltage tape to isolate the the high voltage connection on the installation of a laser tube for one of my customers. We tested the connection properly after the installation and there were no high voltage leaks. I got a call from the customer two weeks later telling me something's wrong. The connection started leaking and this caused the new tube also to get damaged. This was a huge setback for my customer who runs a small business, who cannot afford this. I set up a test comparing the ACDC High Voltage tape with another brand with the same specs. the test is on You Tube video "ACDC Dynamics High Voltage tape test". As you could see from the video it failed the test. I contacted the supplier more than 3 weeks ago, and have still not received any reaction from ACDC Dynamics . It is really shocking that they don't take this seriously, because it is inferior products like these that cause fires, and we have had more than enough of that in South Africa recently.

After investigating with our technical department, we have discovered that due to your earlier communications, they are aware of your complaint, and they have been communicating with our supplier, as well as conducting tests of their own, in order to get to the bottom of the problem. The investigation that we have undertaken is quite detailed, and has unfortunately taken a substantial amount of time.
We have re-confirmed that our supplier has the correct certification required for the product, which means that all the required tests for the certification have been successfully passed. We are now questioning the specifications of these tests, and further investigating their methodology.
What has been pointed out by our supplier, is that in your video, the tape you are using is rated at 40kV/mm, and you have run the test at 40KW, but the tape you are using is 0.76mm thick, meaning that you are correct, at 40KW, tape that is less than a millimeter thick will understandably fail, as you are exceeding its rated specifications.

We are satisfied with the certification provided by our supplier, as well as the testing methodology that was used in order to qualify for this certification, the insulation tape is produced to the standard required.
We have already pointed out the problem with the test video that you have made, and despite the debate on percentage of safety factor that should be built into specifications, believe that this point stands.
The one picture that you have provided us does not clearly show where the electrical tape has failed, we can only see the hole in the tube that you have highlighted, but no apparent damage to the tape.
Unfortunately we cannot claim to be experts on this type of installation, but the research that our technical team has done, does point to the fact that using any high voltage insulation tape is possibly not adequate, as you can see in the following video normally insulation is provided through a rubber sock, a rubber end, or a choc block (at 1:25 in the video):
