Disgraceful service from Bryte.

2019 Tornado claim assessors didnt arrive for appointments twice. After complaining an appointment was agreed for 10AM on a Monday. Assessors arrived over 4 hours late and I was rushing to catch a flight. In spite of numerous complaints I wasnt paid a cent while repairs to my roof alone was over R18000.

With subsequent storm damage we were told the assessor wanted to meet anytime from Tuesday 18 June. My reply was anytime after 12 on Tuesday. I sat the entire afternoon waiting but the assessor didnt arrive or contact me. Now a day later i am told by Wakefields our body corporate managers that the assessor wanted the contractor present and needs to make an appointment first.

Is this treating customers fairly?

A roofing contractor was sent to repair our roof in January but the work is incomplete and roof still leaks. On 3 May Wakefuelds managing agents advised that the contractor had been authorized to return. It is now 19 June and the contractor they appointed has not arrived. During this entire process the broker has not visited the premises or called me to explain why I am not being treated fairly.

We waited from Fedruary to July for the Roofing contractor to return and finish the roof repairs albeit we were advised that he would return early May. The roofing contractor left 2 weeks ago and nobody has checked the workmanship. Now insurers are saying this roof storm damage was wear and tear bearing in mind I submitted invoices for the Tornado claim in 2019 and Bryte didn't pay one cent towards the claim repairs which I was forced to pay personally of over R18000.

Only as a result of my recent complaint on Hellopeter did an assessor contact me and it has now been established that their overall settlement offer was based on carpet replacement that was approximately 50% lower than quotes I had submitted. It was discovered also that the insurers contractor based their quote unseen on an entirely different and inferior product.

No work has commenced on the interior damage to our home so we have 3 bedrooms out of use. The storm damage to house and foundation walls that was repaired has according to the assessor been rejected by Bryte Insurance.

This is in my opinion not treating the customer fairly and an appaling state of affairs.

Bryte Insurance or their agents sent a contractor to quote on repairs to our home for internal storm damage and appointed an assessor on 24 June 2024 following my Hellopeter complaint. The assessor and Bryte Insurance re**** on that quote to arrive at quantum for settlement of the claim. The agreement of loss was not signed by us. Wakefields Managing Agents have failed to provide a copy of the agreement of loss in spite of numerous requests. When we contacted the Insurers contactor to begin repairs he said he couldnt do the work. We now find that alternative quotes we were forced to source are up to 3 times more expensive. The delays finding alternative contractors has led to price increases on carpets and supplies. As we did not sign an agreement of loss and were not consulted we have been prejudiced and in addition a number of repair costs were also omitted from the settlement. Insurers and their assessor were informed of the necessity to have alternative accommodation during the repair process but we were denied. The dust rubble and paint fumes have led to illness.

We will ask the Regulators if they believe we have been treated fairly.
