Went to Zem Cellular in Golden Acre, Cape Town on Friday to purchase earphones for my son. After consulting with a male who was eating while talking to me, I purchased earphones to the value of R100. I received no receipt and no offer to check if the earphones are in working order. Five minutes later, we're sitting in our bus and the one earplug falls off.
I pack it away and tell my son that I'll return it to the shop on Monday. Monday I return it and tell the person behind the counter that it's broken and I would like to return it and take my cash please. The male got so upset - No! we don't keep cash in the store. We don't do refunds. Why you use it over the weekend and now you want to return it, etc.
I told him that I haven't used it and I just wanted my money back. After some raised voices (from him), he threw another box with the same earphones at me over the counter and told me to take those. After he told me that the first set isn't broken - after he tried to fix it in front of me and saying that it's just loose and needed to be tightened. I repeated that I did not want his goods any longer as it's faulty but in the end I was forced to take it or loose my R100.
I would like to know how someone who only deals with cash, can actually tell me that he doesn't do refunds and that he don't keep cash in the shop. Why also does he not ring up any sales or provide any till slips? Why was he so harsh? Why be accusing?
