Zara is unhelpful

I bought a pair of pants at Zara as a gift. They were too big so I went back to change them for a smaller size. The tags were still on the pants, but I did not have the till slip. I did not ask for a refund. I merely wanted to exchange them. Zara refused to exchange them for me.
