Treated badly by staff at changing rooms in Tygervalley

I sent the following complaint to Zara customer services on the 25th of June and received a fairly generic response back supporting your bizarre change room policies and saying that you would 'look into' the behaviour of the staff that I described in my complaint below. I just want you to know, Zara, that I am still waiting for an apology . Judging from the many, many complaints on this site about your ****py customer service, I guess I will be waiting for a long long time. In the mean time, I will not be buying from you again.

"Because of the sale, the changing rooms were busy on Sat 25 June. As I got to the front of the queue I was told that I can't take in more than 6 items and no they won't hold the others. I was told very firmly that these would be put back onto the floor (nowhere in the shop does it warn you of the Zara changing room policy so that you don’t waste your time selecting more than 6 items). I asked the attendant if I could perhaps leave them somewhere on the side as I had just spent 30 minutes selecting them and finding the right sizes. No, I was told abruptly, that isn't possible. I asked to have a conversation with the manager who equally abruptly told me that these are the rules and that they are for everyone's benefit (Really?).

At this point I need to highlight that I was not the only customer reaching the front of the queue and getting frustrated that there was no system for holding additional items that had been selected. I completely understand that a store may want to limit the items going into the changing room to control shrinkage, but in a sale environment the store should have anticipated that people would be wanting to try on larger numbers of clothing than usual and they should have planned for it. It seems completely ludicrous to put in place rules that prevent people from trying on items that they might actually want to buy. The rules are quite clearly there for the store’s benefit and not that of the customer.

Unfortunately this was not the end of my frustrating experience. I put my extra items down and went into the changing room to try on my 6 allowed items at a record speed hoping that if I was quick that my extra items would still be there. I came out after less than 5 minutes and the attendant who so enjoyed telling me the rules informed me with clear smirk on her face that my extra items had already been put back on the floor. I couldn’t believe the vindictiveness of it, but as a working mother I don’t often get a chance to shop so I sprinted around the shop looking for the 3 items that I wasn't allowed to take. Back in the queue, I happened to look at the rack behind the counter and guess what? Hanging on the rack were my extra items - they hadn't been put back at all!

When I asked for the details of the customer services department, the manager, Deka, just disappeared onto the floor and was quite clearly avoiding me. I watched her dealing with other customers in the queue who were also finding out about the ‘6 items’ rule and her approach of just standing there repeating ‘the rule’ was doing nothing to engage the customers. Other than myself, there were at least 3 other women who were discussing how upset they were that they had gathered items that they were now being prevented from trying on. The vindictive changing room attendant who enjoyed telling me that my items had been packed away is Ziyanda Nobaza and to be honest I have never in my life been treated so poorly by a shop attendant as I was by her. Even when I asked for her name she huffed and puffed and rolled her eyes.

I don’t know whether these policies at Tygervallley apply to other branches too, but I would suggest that you review how you manage the changing rooms to make them more user friendly. It doesn’t take much to set up a rack where people can leave their additional items and up to now I have not come across one clothing store that doesn’t make an allowance for extra items other than your own. The vindictiveness of your attendant Ziyanda is also something that I am very offended by. She owes me an apology for deliberately lying to me so that I was forced to run around the store looking for the same items again. Attendants like her are damaging your brand and should never be engaged to work with customers."
