Horrible client experience, pathetic attitude re returns policy

I bought a pair of lace up ankle sandals worth R1500 to wear to a function, together woth some other items totalling R5000. I tried the sandals on in the shop and they were fine. However, wearing them and keeping them on once I left the store was a totally different experience. Within 45 minutes, the top of the left shoe was chafing against my leg, causing a painful red welt and breaking my skin. Hardly an hour later I had to take the shoes off because the pain was so intense. I took the shoes back to the store, wanting to exchange them. The manager said they can't be held responsible for my personal discomfort and that I've worn the shoe already and that my legs could be defective. There is nothing wrong with my legs. Furthermore when I tried the shoe in the store it was on my feet for less than 5 minutes so there was no way on knowing what would happen when I had it on longer. They told me no-one else had complained, which means nothing because the problem could be with THAT pair that I bought. The customer care also gave me the finger. I am a first time Zara client, and the experience has left a horrible taste in my mouth.
