***** - mistakes don’t result in a customer being made to prove innocence from a store who behaved **********ly
I purchased an item of children’s clothing for a baby shower gift from Zara Sandton on 23/12/17 and attempted to return it at Zara Mall of Africa on 28/12/17 only to find out that an incorrect item code was scanned and tellered and additionally, I was charged a price of R100 over the amount of the item that I went home with - which was not even registered on my till slip. It wasted more than an hour and a half of my time when I attempted to return the purchase as the item which was with me was not reflected on my till slip but rather something that I did not purchase nor take home and which was even more expensive - for which I was overcharged as a result. My time, considering I’m a Medical doctor, could have been put to much better use was it not for uselessness, blatant ***** and clearly inadequate training on how to teller goods at a till counter by Zara staff. A teller ringing up something incorrect, giving a customer another item and even at a different price is ***** - nevermind have a customer walk out of a store without a receipt for what they’re walking out with! It is ***** to do what was done at the till at Zara Sandton and not to mention tremendously inconveniencing as a result! As a customer, having to request camera footage be pulled up to prove what was purchased and placed in a bag is absolutely unacceptable and borders on ridiculousness considering the fault was proven on camera to be by the teller in Sandton. Additionally, the teller serving me at Zara Mall of Africa - when I asked to do the return was so rude when I told her that I purchased the items that I had with me and I wasn’t sure what happened in Sandton and why it wasn’t reflected on my slip. She was even more inconsiderate when I questioned why I paid R100 extra for an item that I went home with. Customers can’t be expected to look at a slip and check that the actual item codes on tags match the items in the bag and slip. That’s very unreasonable. Zara staff are being paid to do a job - they should do it honestly and responsibly otherwise what is the point of a teller and what are they getting paid for?! It was dishonest what happened at the till at Zara Sandton and the teller involved needs to be dealt with. Furthermore, the female manager at Zara Mall of Africa who dealt with the issue nor the teller who handled the refund were not even apologetic nor did they verbalize a ‘sorry’ or acknowledge I was right to begin with with my purchases after the Sandton store was able to confirm that the camera footage proved I was charged for something I did not purchase and was not placed into by bag. That type of customer service is unacceptable especially when it was proven that Zara store staff were at fault! To Zara, please go back to Spain. South African consumers deserve honest service and more over, better respect when issues are raised by customers regarding ********** transactions being charged!
