No recourse when Yoco machine does not function

I started a business in 2019 which was aimed at Universities and purchased 2 x Yoco card machines for use. We used the machines until COVID closed the varsities then they were stored away and unfortunately the business closed. I stored the Yoco card machines in their original boxes in an office cupboard. I recently started another small business and decided that I would use my card machines, only to find a "Tampered" message on the screen. On contacting Yoco I was advised that I should have been doing regular software updates, which I was never told to begin with and as I had not, I can not install the latest update and the machines no longer function. They simply advised that I should purchase a "new one" as the "2 year" warranty has expired. There is nothing wrong with them, they both look brand new but there is no recourse. Yoco, you should be clear with people about your software policies and you should at least offer trade ins on machines. I would now rather find another method of payment if possible. I would not recommend using Yoco again for anything, what a waste of money for a small business!
