SAPS Florida and YaRona Cash and Carry accident claim, what a waste of time, resources and air

Upon knocking off work at BBF Safety Group Pty Ltd – Wayne Plastics based at 3 Domkrag Street, Robertville, Gauteng, 1725 at 15h00PM on Friday, 27th September 2019. I used Google Maps to locate the nearest Shoprite from my workplace which was ‘Shoprite Florida’ in order to purchase my groceries. From the slip provided, it can be seen that I finished at 17h03PM and once I had finished packing these into my car, I then continued to use Google Maps to get to my flat using my cellphone which I normally place in the cup holder below my radio stating Expected Time of Arrival (ETA) being 35min away. At the Cnr Westlake Rd & Main Reef Rd, I needed to turn left at the ‘Sharp junction’ to join Main Reef. When I arrived there, there was public transport ahead of me with hazard lights on, having had finished offloading passengers, therefore, I needed to wait my turn to into lane that the public transport was in. I checked the right side to see oncoming cars which at that moment was the truck that was approaching so it had right of way as it was in the second lane next to me that caused the trailer at the back to hit me on the right front of my car as it was too close to me in the lane I was using. This happened at 18h06PM from my cellphone records as at that moment, I was alone, and in a panic called my friend to tell him of this occurrence, I started hooting and flicking my lights for the truck to stop, but it didn’t, so I rushed off and followed it. On my way, another car which was passing me on the way saw that I was driving while crying in a wrecked car and asked what was wrong through my open window and I pointed at the truck that hit me, explaining that I was trying to stop it as it just hit me and drove off. The driver of the other car drove on the left lane in an attempt to try and stop it, which the driver wasn’t cooperating so I managed to get a gap behind this car to be in the font, in the middle lane in front of the truck with my hazard lights on driving slowly, and the truck driver tried to go to the right lane to avoid me and I then again drove in front of him and thereafter he stopped on Main Reef, after Commando Rd which is 10min away from where the accident happened. A police official whose name I didn’t get was present at this point and the driver that was assisting me in stopping the truck asked the truck driver why he didn’t stop after hitting me and the truck driver’s response was that he didn’t see me. We were then advised to go to the nearest police station which was SAPS Langlaate where the truck driver I assume had called his boss because I had seen two men inspecting my car and the Indian gentleman had advised for us to do an Accident Report and he would have his insurance settle the bill incurred from fixing my car as from his observation and what was explained to him, he acknowledged that the truck driver was at fault. He then asked the truck driver to take down my details and we then proceeded into the station to make our statements and were told that SAPS Langlaagte jurisdiction doesn’t enable them to cover Florida, so we needed to drive back to SAPS Florida for assistance. We drove to SAPS Florida and a Constable (lady) assisted us with the Accident Report and gave me the Accident Report No. and thereafter asked the truck driver to either sign the statement which I had written if he agrees with the sequence of events or write his side. At this point, my friend walked into the station and asked what had happened and I explained everything to him in the presence of the Constable. When the truck driver read my statement above, he then changed his story and said that he saw that I am actually the one that drove to his lane, skipping the one I needed to be in and I hit his truck from the back, that’s the reason he continued on with driving. I then asked him, how do I leave my lane to the one he was in that would obviously cause an accident, possibly sustain injuries and ruin my car? His colleague/friend who was a passenger at the time of the accident said that there was a possibility that their truck was in my lane as the truck is big. I advised the Constable of what was written and being said and of the agreement that was spoken of prior to us coming to SAPS Florida and she said that if they did agree to settling the bill, that the truck driver take an affidavit form to have his employer fill it out but didn’t do so. The Constable thereafter said for me to call the truck driver’s employer to let him know of what was happening and when I did this, the employer’s response was that he couldn’t help as he wasn’t there and couldn’t verify what happened. We were told by the Constable that we were done at the station because their responsibility is to have us report the accident. It is up to the parties that were involved in the accident as to how they resolve the bill of the damaged car. She advised that I get 2/3 quotations along with my Accident Report No. to Small Claims Court and perhaps they would be able to help.
