Taste of Orbit chewing gum leaves bitter aftertaste

My wife and I buy two packs of Orbit Spearmint Sugarfree Chewing Gum every week. A few packets ago, some of the pieces had a faulty texture, they were crumbly intead of chewy.

I decided to write to their Customer Relations Department. They asked for all details nof the box of gum - date of purchase, place of purchase, batch number, sell by date etc. They asked that I send a photo of the box.

Later they asked, bizarrely I thought for a photo of the faulty gum! I explained that as I had chewed it, i had thrown it away.

They also asked for a proof of purchase, which I said I no longer had. I received a standard pro forma email fo reply, apologising that they are unable to help me.

"

Thank you for contacting us about your experience. We want our products to bring nothing but enjoyment to consumers like you, and your feedback helps us work toward that goal.

We package millions of Wrigley products a day and go to great lengths to ensure that every pack is of the quality you expect. In addition to numerous quality checks throughout the entire manufacturing process, we also randomly inspect our products once they are in the marketplace.

We’re sorry that your experience was not of the high quality that you’ve come to expect from your trusted Orbit product".

I told them I was not happy with their response and asked that my issue be escalated to somebody senior.

I was put in touch with: Lerato Ramango
Corporate Affairs Generalist
Mars Multisales Africa

She was friendly and polite, but said without having the faulty gum from me, there was nothing they could do to help me. When I suggested surprise at this response, she asked what I expected.

I offered: We are distressed that you have had an unsatisfactory experience with our product and would as a gesture like to ffer you a voucher for X packets of the gu,

I was told that if they responded this way to every complaint....

Really poor customer relations from an international company, they would do well to emaulate the excellent way Pick n Pay handle a product complaint.

Poor poor show Wrigley South Africa.
