Woolworths Sandton City - Customer service

I had the most embarrassing and humiliating experience at Woolworths Sandton yesterday. Woolworths, please your staff can truly do better.

I have been a loyal Woolworths customer for decades, and not once in all these years have I ever been treated the way I was treated yesterday. I visited the store with my daughters to buy a few items. When I got to the till, I greeted the cashier and politely explained that I would be paying in batches. The reason was simple and reasonable, I had bought clothing for my children as well as for my sister’s children, and I needed separate slips so that they could exchange items easily, if they did not fit, once I couriered the items to them in Mpumalanga.

It was only three small batches.

However, while processing the very first batch, the cashier immediately began complaining. She questioned why I was paying in batches, as if customers now need to justify their payment method. She told me she had been doing this “since Tuesday” and insisted that I would receive the discount either way completely missing the point of my request. The tone quickly became rude, dismissive, and condescending.

Even if she was tired or overwhelmed, there is absolutely no reason for a loyal, paying customer to be spoken to that way. Respect and professionalism cost nothing.

I am extremely disappointed. Woolworths is known for excellent service, which is why this experience stands out so painfully.

Otherwise, I have no issues with Woolworths as a brand, I will continue being a customer as I trust and love the quality especially on children's clothing and school uniform they are simply the best.
