Woolworths Phishing Behaviour
I’m disgusted with Woolworths. I asked to have my damaged store card replaced with no other information changing. I did not ask for a limit increase. I did not apply for a new product. I asked for a replacement card. I went into the Somerset West Mall branch and was told I had to phone the call centre to order a Woolworths replaced card. I phoned the call centre and went through the ordinary security questions to verify that it was me on the line, and those questions were satisfied. I went on to ask if I could order a replacement card. I was then told that I had to answer another battery of questions. I thought it was odd to answer another set of questions. After all, I had just been verified! The agent went on to ask if I had a credit card, to which I answered that I did. She wanted to know which bank it was held with. Again, I thought this was an odd question asked for a replacement Woolworths store card. I told the Woolworths agent that I felt uncomfortable giving this information out and my credit card information is none of their business and is totally unrelated. She said that unless she has this information she can’t order a replacement card. I phoned the Woolworths call centre twice, to verify if this is their policy. Again, I said that I was uncomfortable, and again, Woolworths said that they won’t help me. I promptly paid up my account and closed it. Woolworths, your phishing tactics are underhanded, invasive and offensive to customers. You are welcome to conduct surveys where customers voluntarily provide this information. Forcing customers to disclose unrelated financial information is disgusting. You are a corporate retailer without scruples. The scales have fallen from my eyes.
