Woolworths in breach of credit act rules.
Turns out Woolies don’t follow the credit act. They issued an account to an ID ***** using my details even though I have zero credit record. They do or he or she have gotten hold of an old ID book ****** in a house ******* 20 years ago. FnB picked up issues immediately and contacted me. WW Worse failed to contact me to verify details even though the only accurate contact detail the ****** supp**** was my mobile number. Every other institution contacted me very quickly after the ****** attempted taking out loans. Woolworths was informed in May already that they issued this ****** an account using my details. I reacted after receiving an sms of about an outstanding balance. I phoned WW ***** division and warned them immediately. At that stage the ****** has only used a small amount of a 10k credit extended to him by WW. For the past several months they have phoned me and now have their aggressive debt collectors hounding me. I have consistently told WW about the problem they have created. Woolworths is in breach of the credit act. They failed to react when I warned them. PS contacting anybody at Woolworths is a near impossibility with voice messages and dead end transfers. I worked there for 10 years. I thought asking them in May to highlight the account and to add to their screen to never issue this ID number an account would solve the issue. But WW are obviously desperate and handing out loans without any credit checks. They have been issued with all the needed paperwork from my end. My affidavit in May and a copy of my ID requested. Woolworths has every opportunity to catch the ****** when he next used the credit card and to hand him or her over to the police. They failed to react. They now harass me almost daily. I shall protest and at my local WW this weekend and warn other customers WW exposes their customers to this kind of risk due to their lack of compliance and thorough checking.
