Woolworths Financial Services - Loan & Credit Card incorrerct settlement
My review actually relates to Woolworths Financial Services. I have a credit card and loan account through WFS. On 28 August 2023 I got 2 settlement figures for each related account and on the 29th I settled both accounts. On 30 August 2023 I phoned, I have spent over R100 on airtime, because its either waiting forever to get helped, or the call is cut off. So upon getting through eventually so I could close my account over the phone for my credit card, I was told I still owed a few Thousand rands more because of uncleared purchases from days before. I then paid that amount and called again on 31 August to get the account closed. I was told the account is closed and now there is a credit due to me for a few hundred Rand but they can only sort this out when they run their statements in September. Never have I had such *********** service from any financial institution. A bank will offer you a much lower settlement figure regardless of how much you owe, because you are settling with the financial institution. But Woolworths wants to suck a person dry and on top of that offer the worst customer service ever. Then an error of over R65000 was made in my settlement figure for my personal loan, after I paid the settlement figure given and phoned to close the account, I was told they made an error and I owe just a little over R65000 and in their settlement letter it states the following: "We quote you this settlement amount without prejudice to any of our rights (which means without harming any of our rights to take future action). If, for whatever reason, we made a mistake when we calculated the settlement amount or if we made a mistake about any related matter, you shall still be liable to us for any amount which you owe us and which you have not paid." So this was thrown in my face a few times, so Woolworths is protecting their rights, not mine and definitely not acting lawfully. I got a settlement in writing, not my problem if they can't do their job effectively. I am now sitting with a huge problem as I don't just have an extra R65000 to settle the loan, because of the settlement figures given and the money I had I was able to settle in the hopes to close the accounts and get this debt off my name. All financial institutions are to adhere to the Financial Sector Laws / FSR Act. I am going to take this further with the Financial Ombudsman if this is not corrected properly from Woolworths. A simple apology does not fix "a mistake" as they call it. We are talking about tens of thousands of Rands, how does their system allow for that?
