Woolworths does not exchange items

There was a time when it was a pleasure shopping at Woolworths. It was easy shopping for Christmas gifts as one was always secure in the knowledge that items which didn't fit could easily be exchanged. No longer! My son and his family were in South Africa for Christmas and received various items of clothing. There were three items which didn't fit and I was tasked with returning them. Well, the first time I went in I was told that I could not return items without the sales slip. Difficult when it is a gift, but I accepted that. It was very difficult contacting the people who had given the gifts and somewhat embarrassing informing them that the clothes they had so carefully and lovingly gifted were being returned. And so I went back to Woolworths only to be told that I had the incorrect sales slip. Today I have returned yet again. 2 of the items have been on sale and I was told that I would have to take the reduced price. Well, I don't have a choice. So I asked the hapless assistant what the reduced price was. He disappeared to speak to a manager, only to return without that information. I then had to walk all the way back to the Manager and repeat the while long story for the umpteenth time. She refused/ was unable to tell me the price but outright refused to give either a refund or a store card. I HAD to do an exchange. I cannot exchange clothing for someone who is not in the country. We then went through the story all over again. " Oh, he is not here?" Says the manager. "Yes, I have told you that several times" said I. In between all the times that she was being told the story, she asserted that she was trying to be helpful but in order to help me she needed to understand the story. In the end, she could not help me. The only solution was for me to buy another item of clothing which I clearly cannot do with confidence. And so Woolworths has scored hands down----they were paid in full when the items were purchased. They now have them back and I have neither the items nor any money back. I will not be shopping at Woolworths again!
