Woolworth Sizing issue

I purchased a pack of men’s cotton underpants “Cotton Stretch Covered Elastic trunks” about 1 year ago and the fit was a bit tight (XL). Since then, I have lost some weight +- 4kgs. I prefer a loose fit, I purchased the same size (XL) a month ago. This purchase was extremely tight. Subsequently, I gave the garments to my son. I then purchased the next size up (XXL). This was uncomfortably tight as well!

I see the garments are manufactured in India. I presume Woolworths demands representative samples from their foreign suppliers to be sent out before any container shipments are made. No doubt the Indian supplier, as well as the Chinese suppliers play the old import trick. They make sure the sample stock they send is pre-checked to the correct specifications and is not representative of the bulk stock. It’s the oldest textile trick in the book for Eastern Manufacturers.

I presume sending somebody to check stocks in China / India before a particular shipment release as they used to insist with local SA manufactures would affect the Woolworths bottom line. It’s so sad the old Woolworths philosophy of making profit from quality product and customer satisfaction is long gone. The key issue here for Woolworths is achieving profit margins which speaks louder than any commitment to quality or customer satisfaction. My complaint above is not a one off. The constant incorrect sizing has pushed me to start comparing other outlets who traditionally have quality issues.

Past South African textile and hosiery manufactures could match anyone's quality in the world. Woolworths and other SA chains buying policy or should I say their profit policy has put paid to these companies.

When I approached one of the store managers, he actually agreed with the issue. He actually confirmed that the Woolworth staff when buying within the shop complained as well.

I have complained on the Woolworth website some 2 weeks ago, but I have had no response so far. It's not the Woolworths of old where quality was key, I speak with experience as I used to work for one of their suppliers
