Why does Woolworths have cashless tills?

What is going on in Woolworths? I went to the Woolworths in the Sanctuary mall in Somerset West and the person at their till had the audacity to tell me he does not take cash, and that I must use another cashier. Besides that it is embarrassing, it is poor customer service...Hello, Woolworths, wake up! South Africa is not a cashless nation and will probably never be.
