When the shoe doesn't fit

First off - I love Woolworths. I buy most of my clothes and some specialised food items there. I buy all of my shoes there. I literally only wear three pairs of heels (all from WW) and rebuy the same ones as they get tatty. I like to stick with a winning brand and a curated wardrobe. I've only ever gotten a great service! So, my disappointment over what I thought was a BEST BUY (new bamboo shoes) cut deep. I had to create this account and verbalise it before any resentment cropped up over my fave shop... and also, they should know about any shoddy workmanship. The last time I reached this level of disappointment I was 5 years old and my dad bought me an ice cream with no chocolate dip.

Setting the scene: Somerset Mall has an amazing WW. Beautifully renovated and recently expanded. I spot these beige espadrilles made from material and bamboo (Country road). It becomes my midnight obsession to own them. So I save up a bit and 2 months later I throw out my old WW beige heels to buy these beauties! I take them home and proudly wear them to work the very next day. I had to show off my BEST BUY to the girls.

Since I've mentioned the infamous espadrilles about 2.5 times a day (rough estimate, could be more but that would reflect poorly on my conversation topics and so I’ll stick to single digits here) the ladies immediately recognised the fact that I was wearing my new shoes. I may have pointed them out a few times. I may also have mentioned saving up for them… and mentioned that I was entering the mall at end of the month (retail suicide really, but I couldn’t wait!) to own said pair of infamous espadrilles.

Now, I know I’m a busy girl. I have to be on my feet a lot. But at the end of the day the back part of the shoe was drooping like it too needed a field test. (*Generally, a patient with a droopy eyelid gets a field test to check if they have vision impairment. That’s all part of my job). Was my pretty new shoes, my midnight desire, my BEST BUY, already tired of their existence?? Giving up on me already? And… My heels were now uncovered. Yes. Bare heels in public. I was in a professional environment with bare heels. Bare heels! Meaning uncovered and not fully clothed, not nude as in the colour! If this was a different part of the world they would throw me in prison without bail. My family could disown me. I was not on point!!!

Did running after patients destroy my shoes? How?? We were supposed to be together forever! Sole mates! FYI I love my job… But I really REALLY love shoes.

Okay. Breathe. This is not the end of the world (I tell myself). I tuck the bottom part of my pants into the shoes. It looks a bit awkward. I waggle out of the office, but at least my ugly feet aren’t exposed to all and sundry.

Fast forward 3 months. Only wear the infamous espadrilles after gym when I’m not wearing my glasses. It hurts too much looking at them. They look exhausted. Unhappy and dissatisfied with life. I did that to them. It only took me one day to ruin my midnight dream. And then I trip over my own feet. Why? Because my toes are BREAKING FREE of their confined bamboo prison!

Not ideal.

Now, I can understand that I ruined the back part of the shoe. I’ll take the hit. But no way am I going to allow myself to feel crummy over my feet having a Freddy Mercury moment with shoes I’ve been babying since we met. Each shoes now had a gaping mouth where the upper was ripping away from the sole itself. My very soul.

I can’t deal. Woolworths. Please. I need you to do better. This is not meeting my expectations. It’s not making me feel like a valued customer. This is not quality and quite frankly I want to feel like there is a shop I can go to and not be disappointed.

Please be that shop to me again.
