Watch out for unsolicited store card offer

I received an unsolicited offer to apply for a Woolworths store card in the mail. A card was already included, with my name and a card number, with the simple instruction of contacting ***to activate the card. I went to the customer services counter and asked them to activate it, when I was told I needed to now complete an entire application form and b.t.w., do I have 3 months' salary slips with me? Of course I did not - it said nowhere in the letter that I needed to submit that. So I was told that the application would be completed once I brought in the salary slips and my ID. So back I went with said items. This time a visibly irritated Valencia - how dare I disturb her day - promptly told me that they were off line and that she would not be able to do anything for me and that I must come back again. So: three visits to the branch to activate the store card that they offered and would supposedly be activated by making one phone call. Bullocks. Don't fall for it.
