Still No Response to Formal Reckless Lending Dispute
I am now forced to post a follow-up regarding my unresolved dispute with Woolworths South Africa, as I still have not received any meaningful acknowledgment or engagement regarding the serious concerns I raised.
Despite formally disputing my accounts and raising concerns relating to affordability assessments and possible reckless lending, Woolworths has remained silent while collection processes continue.
To summarise:
I earn a net salary of approximately R12,484 per month; Multiple credit facilities were granted to me, including a personal loan, instore account, and credit card; I eventually had to rely on credit simply to purchase food and cover basic living expenses; I had an accepted internal payment arrangement on my credit card account; Despite this, the account was handed over to Nimble Group without prior notification; I only became aware of the handover when I was declined for a consolidation loan due to the full outstanding balance reflecting against my affordability.
I formally contacted Woolworths on 18 March 2026 requesting:
affordability assessments, supporting credit evaluations, and a formal review of possible reckless lending.
To date, I have received no response.
What is deeply concerning is that while Woolworths has failed to engage with my dispute, collection pressure has continued through third-party processes and Section 129 notices.
As a consumer, I believe it is unacceptable for:
substantial credit to be granted without realistic affordability consideration; a formal dispute to be ignored; and accounts to be escalated while concerns remain unresolved.
I have now escalated the matter to the National Credit Regulator for formal investigation.
I once again request that Woolworths urgently engage with this matter responsibly and provide written feedback instead of continued silence.
