Refusal to accept returned clothes

I wish Woolworths would make exceptions to their policies as not situations are similar. I bought baby clothes for my niece on Sale In December last year. She thought that she was expecting a baby girl instead she got a baby ***. I understand that their policy doesn't allow for the clothes to he returned. I however asked them to please make an exception and consider accepting the clothes back and they refused. The clothes still have tags and are in their original packaging
