My domestic worker was approached by Woolworths by telephone offering a large loan. On the telephone a loan was granted, now she has found herself in trouble re-paying the loan. I sent Woolworths details of her debts and income showing she cannot repay. Woolworths disputed this information but to date have been unable or unwilling to supply their information to me, I have POA, which they have acknowledged.

In the meantime they have handed over the account to Munnick Basson Dagama Inc, who have handed over to First Credit. Both companies have issued letters of demand. I have been unsuccessful in contacting either company by phone, and neither offer an email. MBD says they are too busy and I should call back or leave a message which they do not respond to. First Credit puts one through to a line that rings and rings.

In my opinion these are SCARE tactics to stress my employee, as I believe under the National Credit Act this is Reckless Lending. I have known Woolworths for 70 years as I am originally from the UK and have had the greatest respect for them. I wonder if the parent company is aware of the goings on in South Africa.
