Racial Profiling/ Bad service
Morning
My name is Ntombifuthi Vilakazi and I am very offended to say the least by the conduct of woolies staff member in Maponya Mall and West Gate Mall. In December I went to exchange small shoe sizes for my 2 of my young boys and the treatment was disgusting to say the least, the person/cashier that “assisted”me was rude and entitled 1. I walk up to the counter and see looks at me and says nothing so I decide to tell why am there she starts to work on the exchange while doing that I ask if she can give me a plastic back and she said “Oh but you have” referring to the tone and visibly unusable bag so I then bring that to her attention she then proceeds to Throw a fresh bag at me and I then continue to bag the boys shoes and wait for further instruction from her nothing came so I asked “are we done” her response “we been done” I proceed to ask why she didn’t say anything and I further added that the reason for the confusion is the fact that you she is helping a person that she never acknowledged from the begging of the transaction, she just looked at me crazy and so I started walking away. As I was leaving she said something to her colleague next to her and they both bust with laughter, such uncivilized and unprofessional behavior is unacceptable. I did not take it up with the manager because he himself is no different from his team. Its because of that reason I decided to change stores for future shopping, bad decision that was. On the 24/25th last month I go to Woolworths in West Gate Mall it was so insulting to be followed by a security guard as soon as I put a tray of chicken in the trolley he follows us ( me and my partner) the entire time and as soon we pay for the groceries he walks away. So I decide to inform the cashier that was assisting us how offended I was because I felt like we where victims of racial profiling that one security only followed us and one else in store she just told us it’s for our own good (wow what a shock) she didn’t even register anything I said based on her response. If a certain type of African “Black” is not welcomed at your stores kindly state that on your website or just at the door and I will gladly stay away and even if some stores are in high crime areas I think they should rather be shut down rather than opt to treat people like trash to their faces.
I hope I never experience the difference in treatment because of my race ever again. It would be a shame in 2021.
