Prescription and refusal to refund

In December 2016, I contact woolworths Head office to advise them that i was unhappy about an account information that was reflected on the credit bureau but was over 6 years and therefore shoudl be considered as prescribed. I spoke to a person in the legal section named Michelle, who advised taht she would have to look into the matter and get back to me the next morning. The following morning, I awaited the call and by just after 10h00, i decided to give her a call to enquire on any progress. I was that my call could not be directed to her however the message would be transmitted to her. I advised the person that took my call, that i needed a responseurgently, as i had app**** for finance and the approvl of the finance depended on thsi account either being paid or if it was prescribed the finance would be considered on receipt of a letter from Woolworths. i had also approached Jet stores on the same day and received a letter immediately. the person still informed me that i would have to wait they cannot advise me. I even went to the extend of requesting just an e-mail confirming what the decision was. I then advised the financing company of my predicament. They requested i follow up again before a decesion can be made. I called again and was advised that i must wait till th end of the and i pleaded that they advise the person concerned of the urgency. Just after 11h00 i was advised by a colleague that hey will consider paying the amount as it seems that woolworths does not want to budge. A few mintues after the payment was done i received a letter from Woolworths advising that the account is prescribed. I called woolworths back immediately advising that i wasnot happy with what they did and all i was advised thats too bad they cannot refund me. I believe that they waited for my payment and then decided to send the letter. i cannot see how after just a few minutes of the letter a response was able to be received. they could have called and advised that a letter was being sent to avoid my payment. the Payment was to the valuse of R7000.

I think that money shoudl be refunded.
