Poor customer service- The irony!

On the 27 April 2017, i went to the Woolwoths food at Grayston shopping centre. At the entrance was a note which said Sorry- we cannot currently accept payments by debit card, gift card or buy aid. I then asked the gentlemen who works there if the Woolworths credit card was accepted and he said yes.

Upon arrival at the till, my purchases came to R774.10. The card would not go through. I was then told i need to withdraw cash to pay and was told my discounts would apply. I went ahead and incurred bank charges to pay for this. When I tried to pay with cash, the transaction again would not go through.

So my items were scanned for the second time, and when trying to pay I was told there is now a problem with the till.

This as you can understand became increasingly frustrating.

On the third attempt at scanning at a different till, I was then told the coffee vouchers are a problem. To which I then said I do not want the coffee. I was then told I can have it for free since I have vouchers (this does no mean free- as I am still paying for it- this was in no way a consolation for my wasted time, the bank charges or the parking I had to pay for which would have been free had this all not wasted my time).

Finally, after the third scanning, the total was now R806.40. I was told that since my card can’t be accepted I lose out on the 5%. So I paid this amount in cash and was told head office would sort this problem out.

I do hope as head office I am credited for that 5% and I do hope you correct the management with regards to what they put in their notice so as to not waste peoples time or money. As well as look into telling them to remove expired items from their stock (Pita bread expired on the 26 April 2017 was still on the shelf on the 27 April 2017, it’s a pity I did not take a picture, that is not the standard I expect from Woolworths).

I do expect a better standard of service, whether I shop there once a year or every week.

I sent this similar email directly to their customer service and i have not recieved a response yet since the 28 April 2017, nor has my account been credited as promised.

So now i have to complain about customer service after unfruitful complaints to them. Very disappointed. Do better Woolworths!!!
