In an article on News24 today Woolworths states : “As there is no turkey industry in South Africa, all our whole frozen turkeys are imported from trusted sources in Europe, who share our commitments to animal welfare, food safety and quality. We have no frozen turkeys this year as we were not able to import frozen turkeys due to outbreaks of avian flu in potential source countries in Europe.”

I quote "share our commitments to animal welfare" - amazing how one quickly forgets the sheer horror of all the animals lives that are stocked on the shelves. There is no animal welfare here! They suffered terribly and no amount of trying to convince the customers that they were ethically sourced or were free-range can justify what they went through in order to satisfy the taste buds of humans. Disgraceful!
