I was bul**** by a Woolworths delivery driver

This incident happened a few months ago. I didn’t write to Woolworths sooner as it would be very easy to work out who the gentleman involved was and I was concerned that his job may be put in jeopardy.

I’m going to put this in point form in an attempt to make it shorter.

1. I had a phone call to say that my Woolworths delivery had arrived. 2. I realised the phone was downstairs. 3. I ran down and I fell on the last 6 steps. 4. I answered the phone and told the gentleman that I’d fallen, and I thought I’d broken my ankle and I asked him to come back. 5. He said no - he couldn’t. 6. I was sobbing and begging, and he kept saying no. 7. I kept repeating that I’d hurt myself badly and I was very sorry, but he kept insisting. He said he’d bring the deliver inside for me. 8. He was extremely insistent, and I was in shock and pain, and I very stupidly allowed him to come up. 9. When he knocked on the door, I had to drag myself on my hands and knees from the lounge to the front door – a distance of around 10 meters. 10. I was screaming at the top of my voice in terrible pain with every movement while he heard me from the other side of the door. 11. Eventually I got to the front door, and I managed to reach up and open it. 12. He brought the delivery in and put it on the counter. He asked if I was ok which I obviously was not and said goodbye. 13. At the hospital I was told that I had 2 broken bones in my foot, a broken ankle, 3 torn ligaments and 5 broken ribs. 14. I wrote to Woolworths in the middle of December and received an automated email response. 1 5. On 17th December I received a phone call from Woolworths while I was in consultation with our vet and was unable to the call, so my husband did. 16. When he told the lady that I was unable to take her call, she asked if she could speak to him about the incident instead 17. He obviously said no - he had not been present during the incident having only been able to get home from a convention about an hour later. During this entire time, I was lying on the floor in extreme pain. 18. He asked her to call back in an hour. She did not.

I have heard nothing since. I asked in my email that Woolworths delivery staff be properly trained - that they cannot insist on being let in to make a delivery regardless of the circumstances.

I look forward to receiving a reply from Woolworths in the not – too –distant future.
