Employees oppression
Dear Woolworths Café Management, I am writing to formally express my disappointment and concern regarding the recently implemented mandatory tip-sharing policy at Woolworths Café. As a customer, when I leave a tip, it is a personal and intentional gesture meant to reward the specific staff member who served me. In many cases, I choose to tip more than usual to show appreciation for exceptional service and to ensure that the individual who made my experience pleasant directly benefits from that effort. I was therefore deeply disappointed to learn that all Woolworths Cafés have implemented a policy requiring employees to compulsorily share tips, and that staff members are allegedly forced to sign this policy under threat of disciplinary action. This is troubling, both from an employee-welfare perspective and as a paying customer. This policy removes customer choice and undermines the purpose of tipping entirely. If a tip is redistributed into a broader system without transparency, then it no longer reflects appreciation for individual service. As customers, we are not informed at the point of payment how tips are handled, nor are we given the option to ensure our tip reaches the intended staff member. I believe this approach is unfair to hardworking staff who go above and beyond, and it places customers in a position where their goodwill is redirected without consent or clarity. A system that overrides both employee autonomy and customer intention risks damaging trust and morale. I respectfully request clarity on: Why this policy was implemented, Whether customers are clearly informed about how tips are distributed, and Whether employees truly have a choice without fear of punishment. As a loyal Woolworths customer, I hope this feedback is taken seriously and that the company reconsiders a more transparent and voluntary approach that respects both staff and customers.
